December 14 (A Day) and December 15 (B Day)

OBJECTIVE:
1) Students will evaluate the energy produced during the steps of cellular respiration in order to discuss the efficacy of anaerobic versus aerobic respiration.
2) Students will review photosynthesis and respiration in order to compare and contrast them.

WARM-UP: Complete "Analyzing Data" section in Chapter 8 of your textbooks.

CLASSWORK:
1) Review Warm-Up.
2) View short video on Cell Respiration.
3) Discuss the role of ATP in cells and anaerobic versus aerobic respiration.
4) Complete comparison of Cell Respiration and Photosynthesis using Transparency Worksheet.
5) Period 1A needs to complete foldable pamphlet for Cell Respiration.
6) Hand-out field trip permission slips to those students who have paid their lab fees.
7) Do next five vocabulary index cards; spontaneous generation, controlled experiment, manipulated variable, responding variable, and theory.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1) Study Chapters 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9 for the HSA Benchmark next class. Spend a minimum of an hour studying the vocabulary from each chapter. Pace yourself so you are not doing it all the night before the test.
2) Get field trip permission slip signed.
3) HSA BCR #15 in your BCR books.

OBJECTIVE: Students will review the structure and function of chloroplasts and mitochondria in order to describe the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, respectively.

WARM-UP: WITHOUT USING YOUR NOTES OR BOOKS-
Write the chemical equation for photosynthesis. Write the chemical equation for cellular respiration.

CLASSWORK:
1) Review Warm-Up
2) Do Chloroplast/Mitochondria "foldable" activity
3) Write out five flash cards: science, observation, data, inference, and hypothesis

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1) Use foldables and flash cards to study for next week's HSA Benchmark test.
2) Bring in a new pack of index cards.

HOMEWORK DUE:
1) Section 8-3 Worksheet from your Biology floppy workbook.
2) Read pages 3-4 and 3-5 in your green HSA floppy book.
3) Read Section 8-3 in textbook. This is a difficult section to read, so focus mostly on the diagrams.
4) Bring in a new pack of index cards.

1) If you have not paid your lab fee of $5.00, you will need to do so before you can go on any field trips.

WARM-UP: What do the terms light dependent and light independent reactions mean?

1) Review Warm-Up
2) Watch video entitled "Biology: The Science of Life: The Flow of Matter and Energy in the Living World: Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration" on unitedstreaming.com
3) Do foldables activities; a) Cellular Respiration Equation, b) Summary of Cellular Respiration.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1) Complete Section 8-3 Worksheet in your blue floppy Biology Workbook.
2) Read Section 8-3 in your Biology Textbook.
3) Read pages 3-4 and 3-5 in your Green HSA floppy book.
4) Finish foldables if you didn't finish them in class.
5) Bring a new pack of index cards to class next week.

OBJECTIVE: Students will explain where plants get the energy they need to produce food in order to describe the role of ATP in cellular activities.

WARM-UP: What organelle does photosynthesis take place in? What organelle does cellular respiration take place in?

CLASSWORK: Review Ch. 7 test. Perform Photosynthesis lab on page 54 of your lab manuals.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK: Section 8-2 Worksheet from your floppy Biology workbook. Read Section 8-2 in your textbook.

HOMEWORK DUE:
1) Rewritten BCR from the test (except honors).
2) Foldable activities: a) photosynthesis equation, b) summary of photosynthesis
3) Give me email print out for extra credit.
4) Have your parent email me for 10 extra credit points.
5) Bring in a new package of index cards (white or colored) by next week.
