February 1 (A Day) and February 2 (B Day): Genetics Lesson 4

OBJECTIVE : Students will complete the Beaker Babies Lab Activity in order to demonstrate and analyze the outcomes of first generation genetic crosses.

WARM-UP: Construct a Punnett square for the following cross: Tt x Tt. Identify the genotypic and phenotypic ratios if T=tall and t=short.

CLASSWORK:
1) Review Warm-Up.
2) Review Probability Lab, watch short movie clip on probability.

3) Perform Beaker Babies Lab.


TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1) Finish Beaker Babies Lab.

2) Do BCR #23 if you haven't yet.

3) Bring flashcards to next class.

January 30 (A Day) and January 31 (B Day): Genetics Lesson 3

OBJECTIVE: Studnets will explore the principles of probability in order to predict the outcomes of genetic crosses using Punnett squares.

WARM-UP: HSA REWIND: Develop an HSA question that tests the following indicator (3.1.1). Be sure to include the correct answer- The student will be able to describe the unique characteristics of chemical substances and macromolecules utilized by living systems.

CLASSWORK:
1) Review Section 11-2 from your textbook.
2) Perform Probability Lab.
3) Do next five flashcards; covalent bond, ion, ionic bond, molecule and cohesion.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
Do BCR #23 from your HSA BCR book.

HOMEWORK DUE:
Section 11-3 Worksheet from your floppy blue book.

January 26 (A Day) and January 29 (B Day): Genetics Lesson 2

OBJECTIVE: Students will explore the principles of probability in order to predict the outcomes of genetic crosses.

WARM-UP: Complete "Inquiry Activity" on page 262 of your textbooks.

CLASSWORK:
1) Get test back and review if necessary. (B Day students got their tests back on January 25.)
2) Review Section 11-1 in your textbooks.
3) Do Punnett Square worksheet.
4) If time allots, do questions 1 through 4 from Genetics Worksheet.
5) Do next five flashcards: proton, neutron, electron, element and compound.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
Complete Section 11-3 Worksheet. ***A Day students also should do Section 11-2 Worksheet as I forgot to assign it earlier in the week.

OBJECTIVE: Students will identify the phases of meiosis in order to distinguish between mitosis and meiosis.

WARM-UP: What happens during meiosis?

1) Do guided reading worksheet for Section 11-4.
2) Review 11-4.
3) Do next 5 flashcards for electron miroscope, cell culture, cell fractionation, atom and nucleus.
4) Finish mitosis book.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
Study for test next Monday (A Day students) and Tuesday (B Day students). Test will cover all of Chapter 10 and Section 11-4 from Chapter 11 in your textbook. Also, finish your mitosis book for homework.

OBJECTIVE: Students will examine the cell cycle in order to create a book describing each phase.

WARM-UP: REWIND: List the steps of the Scientific Method.

CLASSWORK:
1) Review Section 10-3 using guided reading worksheet.
2) Begin Cell Cycle book.
3) Write out next 5 flashcards: homeostasis, evolution, Metric system, microscope, and compound light microscope. NOTE: Period 1A did not do the flashcards today.

January 4 (A Day) and January 5 (B Day): Cell Division Lesson 2

NOTE: On Thursday, January 4, I will be on a field trip during 3rd and 4th periods.

OBJECTIVE: Students will identify the mechanism of cell division in order to discuss how cell growth affects a cell’s function.

WARM-UP: What are the two things that limit the size of cells?

CLASSWORK:
1) Complete Section 10-1 and Section 10-2 Worksheets in your floppy blue book. These are due by the end of class today!!! A Day students please give these to the substitute teacher.
2) If you finish early, begin tonight's homework.
3) B Day students were also given about 30 minutes to complete make-up work for the quarter.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1) Do Section 10-3 Worksheet in your floppy blue book.
2) Read Section 10-2 in your blue textbook.

HOMEWORK DUE:
1) Read Section 10-1 in your textbook, pp. 241-243.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! RESOLVE TO STRIVE FOR FIVE EVERY DAY!!!

OBJECTIVE: Students will define Chapter 10 vocabulary terms in order to prepare for the Cell Division chapter.

WARM-UP: How does an organism increase in size?

CLASSWORK:
1) Complete Warm-Up and Review. (10 minutes)
2) Begin Review of Chapter 10 material, Section 10-1. Fill in Section 10-1 outline as we review. (10 minutes)
3) Watch Part 1 of Mitosis Video. Take 15 lines of notes. (15 minutes)
4) Make Flashcards for next 5 vocabulary words: biology, sexual reproduction, asexual reproduction, metabolism, stimulus. (10 minutes)

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1) Read Section 10-1, p. 240-243 in blue textbook and answer Section Review questions numbers 1-4 on p. 243.
2) For extra review, you can also read about Mitosis in your green HSA floppy book on pages 4-16 and 4-17.

HOMEWORK DUE:
1) Winter Break Packet.
2) Field Trip permission Slip.
